If you shave it yourself, you symbollically take the power away from the chemo/cancer and restore it to yourself. Also, it might look better to have it gone at once, rather than falling out in uneven clumps.
Best of luck to you! Hang in there! :)
I'm beginning to lose my hair due to an oral chemo treatment. Should I shave my head or just wait it out?
Well if it's really long you should cut it now and probably make it into a wig for your self but if it is short just let it come out. But you don't want to have your own hair then you should donate it. If you go to a salon just ask if they donate hair and just cut it.
I'm so sorry hun. I've kinda been there with my friend.

i suggest shaving, sadly- i really do feel for you- i am sorry about what you have to go through. there are certain places/ organizations you can visit that will give to real wigs to put on your head that have a suction cup underneath the hair part so they'll stick to your head. research it, and shave it only if you plan to do that with the wig. good luck and get better!

Welp....my mom went through chemo and went through what you are now experiencing. It really got to her when she would see her hair laying there on her pillow......so, i vowed, that if i ever had to go through it, i would first go pick out a nice wig, and then immediately shave my head. So, i vote for shaving your head, less traumatic in the long run i think.

If you feel comfortable with shaving then by all means do it! Find you a real pretty wig and do it big baby!

if its long, cut it shorter. I would keep it as long as i could until it statrs looking bad, then shave it. Maybe you should go to a wig shop and find a wig that suits you. good luck and i hope everything works out for you.

i suggest you wait it out. After your treatment is complete it will take about 90 days for your hair cycle to commence once more. New hair will reappear because the treatment does not hurt your follicle or your hair returning to its normal stage. You are loosing it because each single hair strand is attached to small blood vessels beneath your skin and anything you take into your body will eventually be released through your body's natural way of releasing toxins. In this case, the toxins come out through your pores in sweat and sebum. On our heads we have the most pores thus causing you to loose you hair. But don't worry you will get it all back. I did after 2 years of chemotherapy.

I had really long hair when I had to undergo iv chemo almost 4 years ago. Losing my hair by the handful was too heartbreaking so I had a party with all my friends and used clippers to shave it all off. I had a wig but hated it so I invested in alot of pretty hats and scarves. You really have to discuss it with your doctor and nurses first though as some treatments will only make your hair very thin, not all fall out. Think of the benefits too. My underarm hair never grew back. Haven't shave them for 3 1/2 years!!Yeah!!!
